Panel Discussion with

Venezuelan Ambassador Bernardo Álvarez Herrera

Jesus Rondòn – Founding member of Los Vasallos del Sol

Adriana Manrique – Cultural Promotions Director of the Fundacion Bigott

African and indigenous musical heritages are evident in Venezuelan culture. But historically, Afro-descendant and indigenous populations in Venezuela have been marginalized from socioeconomic and political structures. What is the role of culture and the arts in addressing past marginalization? How is Venezuela’s new vision of promoting cultural diversity and inclusiveness progressing?

Please join Venezuelan Ambassador Bernardo Álvarez Herrera, Jesus Rondòn (founding member of Los Vasallos del Sol, the 28-member ensemble which promotes Venezuelan culture), and Adriana Manrique (Director of Cultural Promotions of the Fundacion Bigott, a private cultural foundation committed to supporting Venezuelan popular culture) as they discuss “The Dynamics of Cultural Diversity Inclusion in Venezuela.” The Venezuelan musical sensation Los Vasallos del Sol is touring the United States for the first time. The group weaves together the varied dance and musical traditions of Venezuela.

Refreshments will be provided.
