Zimbabwe Elections Resources


This week the people of Zimbabwe cast their votes, in what is likely the most hotly contested struggle for power since the country’s independence war against settler colonialism.  An under reported aspect, however, is the growing grassroots movement for change spearheaded by community groups, women, youth, workers and other marginalized groups in society.  In February 2008, 4,000 activists came together in Harare to support a People’s Charter.  Reminiscent of South Africa’s Freedom Charter, it affirms the basic rights to food, education and health care, all of which are currently denied to ordinary Zimbabweans.
